Start with the accounts that matter most

If you are helping an aging parent with technology, begin with the accounts that can lock the family out or create the most risk: email, banking, phone provider, pharmacy, and insurance or medical portals.

  • Protect the main email account first.
  • Create a recovery plan before changing many passwords.
  • Use plain language and practice one login at a time.
  • Move slowly enough that the person using the account still understands what changed.

Recommended first guide

Start by securing the email account that resets everything else. Then use the password manager guide and checklist.
